I am currently a rising Junior at Syracuse University. My major is Public Relations and I have two minors, Sport Management and Marketing. I came on this trip to gain cultural and historical knowledge about Spain. I have spent time in different regional cities around Madrid as well as sports sites in Madrid. I love gaining knowledge about history and sports, so this experience was perfect for me. This portfolio is a demonstration of the work that I did, learning about history and culture in the great city of Madrid! When moving through the portfolio, click the pictures to access the PDF version of each assignment.
The Spanish Crest is the most representative image of Spain. It sits on the Spanish flag and has multiple aspects. The five kingdoms are represented in this order: Castile by the castle, Leon by the lion, Aragon by the red and gold stripes, Navarre by the chains, and Granada by the pomegranate at the bottom. The centerpiece represents the Bourbon Dynasty of Spain. Additionally, the floating columns represent the "Gates of Hercules" or the end of the world. These gates are the straight of Gibraltar, where the Mediterranean Sea feeds into the Atlantic, where nobody had ever explored before. The latin means "No Further", again representing the end of the world. Lastly, they all reside under the crown, the one monarchy.
Spain is located in Southeastern Europe. Its coasts include the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, allowing for ease of import and export. In the early years, they were heavily involved in the Mediterranean culture with heavy ties to other Mediterranean countries. Additionally, they are positioned just north of Africa, which has been beneficial for trade, but sometimes difficult in terms of immigration. Its economy thrives off tourism as people love to visit its vibrant cities and beautiful coasts.
